Boys & Girls make the trip to Castlebar & Westport

MiniIt was a busy day of rugby on Saturday as our boys and girls teams hit the road for their opening rugby blitz of the season in both Castlebar and Westport.

The girls had two teams in action in Westport with some top notch rugby on show for all the teams involved. Best on the day for the Colts was Nora Staunton who covered every blade off grass on the Westport pitch.

The U8 group also had a busy morning as they took on Westport and Castlebar. All games were very keenly contested with Tom McHugh and Michael Symth doing best of all. The U9 teams put on a fine display of rugby and had some great encounters with their Westport and Castlebar counterparts. The players that really caught the eye were Andre Ludden and Brian Hett.

The U10 team were also in action in Westport and had two teams on duty. Both teams were keen to get the ball in hand and they were some quality tries scored by both Colts teams. Best of all on the day were Conor Healy, Jack Melvin and Paul Gilmore.

The boys U11 and U12 teams hit for Castlebar and both had two teams in action. The U11 teams had some magnificent games and made a great start to the season with some fine passing and try scoring throughout. A number of players really caught the eye with Davey Hennessy, Cormac Carney and Blaine O’Toole shinning the brightest.

The U12 teams had some titanic encounters and all games were decided by small margins. The Colts had some great performers across the six game they played with Matthew Merrick, Charlie Philips and Dylan Morris displaying all that skills needed in the game of rugby.

We’d like to say a big thanks to all who supported our players on the day and a big thanks to Castlebar and Westport for their hospitality after the games were done and dusted.
