Colts Mini Rugby Blitz Roundup

RugbyThere was some excellent rugby on display during a cold crisp Saturday morning as the boys and girls of Claremorris took on their counterparts from Westport RFC.

The girls had a great turnout for their games with Westport as all the girls were keen to the get some tries on the board. There were a number of great displays from all the girls on show with Saoirse Quinn proving best of all. The U8’s boys had a couple of interesting contests with Westport with some fine trys scored by both teams. The Claremorris lads had plenty of players giving it their all with Barry Gleeson the stand out player.

The U9’s had three teams on show and these games were notable for the number of trys scored by all the teams. Clearly both teams were more concerned about attack rather than defence, best of the local lads were Oisin Jordan, Daniel Noone & Luke Colleran.

There were also two teams in the U10 group with Westport proving a very tough challenge for Claremorris. These games were of the highest quality with Claremorris clearly well drilled in tackling and rucking with Meiheal Hett and Blaine O’Toole doing some excellent work in both defence and attack.

The 11’s also had big numbers with two teams pressed into action. The Claremorris boys were dominant early on and ran in some fine trys. As the games progressed things started to change with the Westport kicker getting his team back into the game with some fine restarts. There were fine displays among the Colts with Adam Vahey’s tackling and Patrick Kirrane’s try scoring best of all.

The U12’s gave their best display of the season as the ran in some fine trys. These well drilled lads worked well as a unit as every player gave it their all from first whistle to last. There were a number of outstanding performers in red and white with Michale Mchale and Oisin O’Connor really catching the eye.

We would like to thank Westport RFC and their coaches for travelling to us. We also say a HUGE THANKS to all those who brought food and to all those who helped out on the day, the tea and coffee were badly needed. Thanks for all your efforts.
