At the start of the match the Colts backs were able to dance though the Castlebar defence. First over the white wash for Claremorris was Michael McHale after the ball was sent out wide. The conversion missed, the score was 5-0.

Minutes later the Colts were awarded a penalty. James Jennings took his penalty kick well and slotted the ball through the posts, leaving the score 8-0. The Castlebar pack responded soon thereafter with a well worked try, but they missed the conversion. The score was then 8- 5.

James Jennings tacked on another 2 points with the conversion to make it 15-5.

Before the half time break, the Colts were to deliver more pain to Castlebar. Conor Gaughan robbed a Castlebar line-out and sent the ball back. Claremorris backs worked the ball around the flanks again and this time it was James Jennings who touched down to end the first half score 20 points to 5.

The second half saw no scores for either side yet it was a tense and enthralling game. The Castlebar pack kept coming and coming. The Colts put in a monster performance with crunching tackles and a solid defensive performance to keep Castlebar out.
