Scoring break

U13 vs Loughrea

The U13’s took to the field in Loughrea on Saturday morning for their first ever cup game and made a very impressive winning start to the campaign. Loughrea started brightly putting a string of phases together forcing the Colts to absorb a lot of early pressure but fair play to the lads they stood firm and turned over the ball then Liam Walsh broke down the line to run in the first of what was to be 11 tries.  A confident display from this group of young men who showed both great line speed and excellent support play and with the ball moved quickly through the hands it was pure joy to watch.

The colts reaped the rewards of quick hands getting the ball wide to attack a one dimensional Loughrea team. Tries from Adam Thornton (1) Conor Lydon (2) John Finn (1) Liam Walsh (2) Rio Mortimer (1) John Dillon (1) and a hat trick from Oisin Mc Nicholas with Walsh converting (4).  A great display by the young men, a real team effort; onward and upwards we march !! Loughrea did run in a consolation try at the end of the game.
Final Score: Loughrea 5 – 63 Colts

U14 vs Corrib

U14s won a tough encounter with Corrib this morning by only two points. However, as no ref turned up it was played as a friendly . So we will have to do it all over again.

U15 Girls vs Balinasloe

A perfect day for rugby in Dunmore as our U15 girls welcomed Ballinasloe for their Cup semi final. However it wasn’t a perfect start to the day as the Colts lost their influential no 10 Abby Ronaynne to sickness just be for kick off .  After a quick reshuffle the game kicked off with the Colts attacking down the wing . When this play broke down the Colts were hit with another blow when center Meabh Delaney went off with an ankle injury.  Saoirse Quinn went in to take her place. The early exchanges were tough as both teams tried to take control. Ballinsloe scored first with a break away try and they led by 7. True to form our girls fought back and after some hard yards by Aine Mangan and her fellow forwards, Kaitlyn Mullaney drove over to touch down and Leanne Kelly added the extras. Control of this game flowed between both sides and Ballinasloe were next to score leaving the score 14 7.  A typical tough Cup game both sides fought for every ball and inch of the pitch Nicole Mullee and Lara Quirke leading the way.  Again the Colts hit back when some good ball skills Aoife Meehan and Ciara Nyland set Kaitlyn Mullaney free to touch down in the corner and the first half finished 12 14 to the visitors. The second half didn’t produce any score but it was a great display of rugby . Both sides tried to find the score to secure the victory but with such committed defending scores were hard to come by. So as the final whistle went it was disappointment for the Colts.

Final Score: Colts 12 – 14 Ballinsloe.

Colts’ Blitz with Creggs and Carrick

This was the second home Blitz in 2 weeks but the best news was that we were back on grass. After all the rain and a good few weeks rest thr Convent Pitch was open to us again.

Both Creggs and Carrick brought good teams keen to play Rugby and there was good skills on show wherever you looked. Even though the day was very cold all the players seemed to really enjoy the Blitz – particularly the hot dogs and other food at the end. A big thank you to everyone who bought food (there was a lot), all the parents who stayed to support the players and an especiall thank-you to the Ladies who served the food and drinks in what could only be described as chaotic conditions. Everyone got some food and was extremely patient waiting their turn. Great day!

 Scoring break a good catch
