Tag Rugby 2013 Final Night

After 105 games, numerous tags and a lorry load of try’s the Claremorris RFC Tag rugby league came to close.  168 players enjoyed seven weeks of fun and frolics on Tag pitch as the final night was celebrated in fine style by all the players and supporters.

The majority of the league was played in glorious sunshine but the final night proved to be a mix bag with rain showers a plenty causing havoc for players and spectators alike.

2013-07-26-2571(0)The final of the Cup was a close affair with Team Blitzkrieg from Irishtown having just too much for Dude Where’s My Tag? and won the cup on a 9-6 score line. This was an extremely close game throughout as Team Blitzkrieg led 4-1 at half time. The second half continued in the same vein but the Irishtown side got their tries at the right time to ensure the cup was won by Team Blitzkrieg for the very first time.

The third and fourth place Cup playoff was won by Knocking on Sam’s Door who beat Fantaggintastic 4-3 after extra time.

The Plate was claimed by Tagnam Style, who only had the bare minimum to spare over Cheers 5o Shades of Tag as they celebrated a 9-8 win. No Woman No Try finished third as they had a bye win over The Rancheros.

2013-07-27-2601The Bowl was hotly contested as the winners had to win two games on the final night to claim the prize. In the semi-finals the eventual winners Pick & Mix beat Dirty Tagging Scoundrels while their final opponents Scrum + Coke beat Tagadega Knights in their semi-final. The final was keenly contested with both side hoping for glory with Pick & Mix coming on top.

The final of the Spoon the one nobody wanted to win, was the first game of the night. In this game The Wet Bandits from Ballinrobe just had too much in hand for How I Tagged your Mother and ensured they avoided the dreaded Wooden Spoon.

2013-07-27-2609Once the games were done and dusted it was back to Hanley’s Bar who were the league sponsors the traditional end of season tag party. The winners were presented with their medals and trophies while everyone partied long into the night. We would like to say a big thanks to Gerry and all in Hanley’s for their hospitality on the night and also thanks to all those who helped contribute to another successful Tag league. Roll the 2014 Tag season.
