Tag Rugby 2014 Final Night

So another Colts Tag rugby league draws to a close after thrills and spills galore. During the six weeks of action we had late tags, early tags, yellow cards and a bucket loads of trys.

The majority of the league was played in glorious sunshine and finals night was no exception as the 12 teams hit the Convent pitch hoping to bring home some form of trophy.

The Cup final was between The Try Babies who beat Don’t be a fool Tag that Tool in their semi-final 6-2 and the Rancheroes who had a titanic semi-final battle with Poppin Tags. The Rancheroes only claimed their final place in extra time over the defending champions.

The final itself was a fast paced affair with plenty of speed on show from both team. It was The Try Babies captained by Anthony Coyle who eventually triumphed on a 17-7 scoreline. Don’t be a fool Tag that Tool claimed 3rd place as they beat Poppin Tags 9-4.

The Plate was won by The Alcotagtics, who only had three points to spare over Tagtical Genius as captain Celene Kilgannon and her team celebrated a 7-4 win. For the majority of this team it was a second successive Plate win. Robe Ruckers claimed 3rd place in the Plate with a win over Cunning Stunts.

The Bowl as always was another tight contest with both Bowl semi-finals won by a single point. Can’t Tag this beat Tag the Pony 4-3 to book their Bowl final spot while Mus Tag Sally needed extra time to beat #Tagged 4-3 in their semi-final.

The final itself was just as close as Mus Tag Sally captained by Paul Melvin again needed extra time before beating Can’t Tag this 5-4 and bag the Bowl.

The Spoon final the one nobody wanted to win, was also a close game as #Tagged came out on top 7-4 an so ensuring Conor Kelly and his Tag the Pony team had the a Wooden spoon to remember the 2014 Tag league!

Once the games were done and dusted it was back to Hanley’s Bar who were the league sponsors for the traditional end of season tag party. Although only four teams brought home silverware everyone partied long into the night together, where discussions ranged from where it all went either right or wrong to what they will do differently with their teams next year. One thing is for sure, Roll the 2015 Tag season!!!
